A third recruit from the Class of 2022 from West Virginia has decided to opt out, joining Kevin Thomas and Justin Williams.

Three-star Zion Young (a 6-foot-6, 225-pound defensive end from Westlake High School in Atlanta, Georgia) initially signed up to WVU in late June, after a visit to Morgantown on June 24, but his time as a that mountaineer commit ended after announcing his disengagement on Sunday via Twitter.

My Recruitment is 1000% open 💯,
Stay tuned🙏🏾. # Dieu1er pic.twitter.com/hrizTw42Pa

“Thank you to the coaches at the University of West Virginia for believing me and giving me the chance to come and play at Morgantown. After careful consideration and discussions with my family and God, we have decided that it is in my best interests to retire from West Virginia at this time.

“Stay tuned.”

Young received an offer from Michigan State in October, and according to 247Sports and Rivals, it appears Michigan State has the edge in its recruiting hunt. Rivals have already 100% predicted Young will land with the Spartans.

247Sports ranks Young as the 1,274th rookie in the class, 155th for defensive lineman and 121st for Georgia rookie. Rivals did not rank Young, but he does have a rating of 5.5 Rivals.

With Young’s disengagement, three-star advantage Aric Burton is the only defensive lineman engaged in WVU’s 2022 class – which now ranks 32nd on 247Sports and 34th on Rivals.
