Charleston County Commissioner of Parks and Recreation Announces Offer for SC State House
CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – A stay-at-home mom who sits on the Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission has announced her intention to run for SC House District 114.
Michelle Brandt is running as Democrat for the seat representing the West Ashley / Dorchester area. As a resident of West Ashley, Brandt said her legislative efforts would focus on issues facing her community, infrastructure and transportation, education, affordable housing and flooding.
Brandt moved to the Lowcountry with her husband seven years ago. Previously, she worked as an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist for MITER Corp. in Virginia, and as an environmental noise specialist at the US Army Aberdeen Test Center in Maryland.
According to Brandt, âbetter decisions are made when there are more points of view at the table,â and she believes she can offer a unique perspective.
âAs a person of faith and values, a minority woman with a background in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and a citizen with a clear interest in the health and well-being of others, I want to work for everyone. in District 114 and our area.
Brandt plans to officially apply when registration opens in March.
House District 114 is currently held by Republican Lin Bennett, who has held the office since 2016.
