Clemson jokes about dwindling home football crowd in South Carolina
South Carolina played to a second sold-out crowd on Saturday night and announced a record attendance of 79,897.
Opportunities for USC fans to cheer were few and far between, and there wasn’t much garnet and black in the stands as the second half continued and Clemson built their 30-0 win in the Williams-Brice stadium.
One of Clemson’s veteran defenders noticed how the crowd thinned out on the cold Columbia night.
“This crowd went from SOLD OUT to Socially Distant very quickly,” Tigers junior defensive end KJ Henry said on Twitter.
Clemson earned a seventh straight victory in the Rivalry Series.
The Tigers ‘official Twitter account also participated in the trolling, posting’ Farewell to You ‘- a dig of the Gamecocks’ ‘Forever to Thee’ line that concludes the school’s alma mater – with a video of an orange car cranking up its engine, displaying a “7NA ROW” license plate and accelerating.
A video from Clemson’s locker room was also posted to social media, showing the team dancing to the Gamecocks’ anthem “Sandstorm” with players chanting “USC! USC! USC!”
It was all in the drive for a Gamecocks 6-6 and bowl-eligible program, but still chasing their first Palmetto Bowl win since 2013. South Carolina will learn their playoff destination a week from Sunday. .
