Fannett-Metal falls in Southern Huntington

Fannett-Metal (8-7, 7-3 ICC) traveled to Southern Huntington to face the 1st place Rockets. The Rockets took a 10-8 lead after one and extended the lead to 23-15 at halftime. “It took us a while to get going offensively tonight, but in the 3rd quarter we managed to hit a few shots and find the open man to tie the game at 32-32 after three quarters of play,” Coffman said. The Rockets made a run in the 4th but the Tigers showed their resilience by shooting in the three with less than 2 minutes to go. “We were hit with an offensive foul with 1:45 left which put us in a tough spot,” Coffman said. CHS came down and scored to regain momentum, and the Tigers had to start fouls. The Rockets would finish the game with a 55-46 ICC victory. “It was a packed house at Southern tonight and it was great to see a lot of our fans making the trip as they certainly give our team some extra energy. Although we lost I felt we gave them a boost. good fight. Hopefully those kinds of games pay off later in the season,” Coffman said.
Fannett-Metal’s Hunter Hill hit the 1,000 point milestone in the 3rd quarter tonight on a patent drive from Hunter Hill in the lane where he beat a few defenders and put him down. “I’ve seen Hunter do this many times throughout his career, Coffman mentioned. I appreciate Southern stopping the game to allow Hunter to celebrate his achievement.
Hill led the Tigers with 19 points tonight and 6 rebounds. Luke Coffman hit a trio of treys to finish with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Riley Martin added 8 points and 7 rebounds, while Wyatt Appleby finished with 6 points and 9 rebounds. Ayden Warren finished with 5 assists. The Rockets were led by Lance Carbaugh with 20 points and Nate Myers with 13 points.
The Junior Varsity Tigers won their 5th straight game to improve to 7-2 this season. Fannett-Metal travels to James Buchanan on Wednesday night for a non-league game at 7:30 p.m.
