Handel’s Ice Cream opens Huntington Beach store with a benefit – Orange County Register

Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream & Yogurt department store opened a new scoop store on Thursday, March 10 in Huntington Beach, across from the pier.

The national brand, which already has stores in Orange County, offers 48 flavors a day — chosen from a list of more than 170 that rotate seasonally. This one belongs to Zach Leffers who is also a partner of the Newport Beach and Manhattan Beach sites.

Leffers decided to hold a benefit event for the Page family during its opening weekend, from Thursday March 9 to Sunday March 13. John and Shaya Page have lost their two youngest sons, Joshua, 18, and Jeremy, 17, to a collision. involving their van and a city vehicle on Monday, March 7.

Both were students at Edison High School, so Leffers posted an announcement on social media: “We want to donate 100% of the proceeds purchased by Edison students, faculty and staff to the Family Page this weekend. “, we read.

“It seemed natural to us to do something for them. And actually the mom came on Saturday and we just started tearing up,” Leffers said in an interview. “The amount of support Huntington Beach has received has been incredible.”

The store is highly visible at the corner of Main Street and Pacific Coast Highway in a 1,328-square-foot location that was once a Havaianas flip-flop store. The space was completely renovated by Frank Wright of Ikon Architects and decorated with the brand’s red, white and blue colors.

Handel’s offers yogurts, sorbets, ice cream, and fat-free choices as well as banana splits, sundaes, smoothies, and other treats. Leffers, who operates the store with manager Jesus Bautista, said he was delighted with the prime location and intends to continue connecting with locals. He already has his next perk planned.

“Oka Elementary reached out for their Jog-a-thon and we said ‘Absolutely!’ We’re going to be supported by the community and that’s how we’re going to be able to thrive,” he said.
