Hundreds of people gather at Huntington Beach Pier for the “Freedom March”
Hundreds of anti-mask protesters gathered at Huntington Beach Pier on Monday evening, just before most coronavirus-related physical distancing and mask requirements for those vaccinated were lifted on Tuesday.
Many in attendance were wearing clothing or waving flags supporting former President Donald Trump. The rally included a maskless march, considered a “freedom march” on an aviator, from Pier Plaza to Pacific City.
“[Gov. Gavin] Newsom… will always require muzzles, ”the leaflet reads. “We open when we want. “
The flyer also noted that Monday was National Flag Day, as well as Trump’s 75th birthday.
Under new state guidelines, Californians fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can now do without a face mask in most situations. However, unvaccinated residents are still required to mask themselves in indoor public places.
