Lady ‘Cats struggle to lose 90-37 to Charleston

BUCKHANNON, West Virginia – The West Virginia Wesleyan women’s basketball team (2-18, 1-16) lost a home game 90-37 to Charleston (15-7, 13-5) Monday night at the interior of Rockefeller Center.
WVWC leaders
carrie barnet scored the most points for WVWC with seven. Barnett was perfect on the court and went 3-3. Malaika Kimmons secured eight planks. Courtney Wilfong had two assists. Daveona Hatchell crushed a block and Bryant–Brown Symphony forced two interceptions.
Charleston leaders
Marksman Dakota Reeves sank eight three-pointers and led the visitors with 24 points. Reeves, Markyia McCormick, Clarrissa Francis and Trinity Palacio combined to score 57 of UC’s 90 points. Clarirssa and Anastasiia Zakharova each had eight rebounds. Palacio and McCormick added a total of eight assists. Zakharova and Camryn Nadir both had three interceptions.
Inside the first half
Charleston took a nine-point lead early in the first quarter. Tamera Maple converted the Lady Bobcats’ first three-pointer midway through the quarter. The Golden Eagles led 25-6 at the end of the first period. The Lady Bobcats’ biggest scoring streak of the game was a six-point streak with baskets made by Kimmons, Wilfong and Hatchell. UC closed the first half on an 8-2 run and trailed 26 at the break.
Inside the second half
UC beat Wesleyan 13-11 within five minutes of the third quarter. Barnett delivered two difficult baskets and Bryant Brown connected on a triple in the opening minutes of the second half. Charleston scored the last 11 points of the third act. The visitors picked up a 90-37 victory.
