N. Charleston Police Tackling Violent Crime in the Community

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – North Charleston Police Chief Reggie Burgess spoke to city leaders and the community after two fatal shootings in one weekend, which are still the subject of ‘investigation.
Chief Burgess says he wants the community and law enforcement to work together to not only help solve these crimes, but also to combat gun violence.
North Charleston Police broadcast the 911 calls to City Hall for the community to hear. Shots were fired on South Allen Drive in North Charleston on February 26, killing one teenager and injuring three, including Joyce Nesmith.
“The bullet that was fired by these people entered her business and hit her in the head. he’s a civilian man,” says Chief Burgess.
Chief Burgess is rallying the community to help solve the deadly shooting and officials say at this time they have no suspects.
“We cannot allow people who commit these types of acts in our community against our people who live in these communities to sit still and not be held accountable,” he said.
Chief Burgess says he is tired of seeing innocent lives taken in random acts of violence and wants justice for those affected. He says he needs help from the community.
“This community, which I know, in which I grew up, which I love. I am a born and raised North Charleston boy. I will do everything on the PD side, but we need the community to help us do it,” he says.
Police have yet to release any information about what led to the shooting and no arrests have been made.
