Nine climbers win the Academic All-MAC
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Nine members of the University of West Virginia men’s soccer team have been named to the All-MAC Academic Team, as announced Tuesday by the Mid-American Conference.
Elders Pau Jiménez Albelda (Sports management), Kevin morris (business data analysis), Nic Short (sport and exercise psychology) and Steven tekesky (sports management), juniors Aaron Denk Gracia (general affairs) and Ike swiger (business), second year redshirt Dyon Drômes (sports management) and rookie redshirt Kyle lehnert (sport and exercise psychology) and Sam morgan (company) represented the climbers on this year’s team.
The nine winners from West Virginia mark the team’s second consecutive year with nine members of the All-MAC Academic Team, while the total is WVU’s second since joining the league in 2012. Morris won his third career accolade, while Jimemez Albelda and Tekesky were placed on the team for the second time in their careers. Short, Denk Gracia, Swiger, Dromers, Lehnert and Morgan made their debuts for the team this season.
A total of 52 student-athletes from the six member institutions of the Mid-American Conference were named to the team. Morris and Dromers were two of five student-athletes to be named to the team with perfect GPAs of 4.0.
The All-MAC Academic Honor is awarded to a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a cumulative GPA of 3.20 and have participated in at least 50% of their team’s competitions in 2021.
