Police Arrest Man Charged with Burglary of N. Charleston Company, Striking Employee Causing Serious Injury
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – Investigators have arrested a 33-year-old man who is accused of robbing a grocery store and hitting an employee causing serious injury.
The North Charleston Police Department has indicted Joseph Bryan Weathers who was arrested on Friday by the intelligence-led police unit and the United States Marshals Task Force. His arrest follows an incident on May 9 when officers responded to an armed robbery with shots fired at the Red & White grocery store at 6550 Rivers Ave.
Police said the suspect physically assaulted two store workers during the theft. One of the workers sustained serious head injuries after being hit on the head with a pistol brandished by the suspect, police said.
“The suspect shot a bullet in the ceiling and fled with a bag containing about $ 25,000 in cash,” NCPD officials said. “A leaflet with the photo of the suspect was circulated by the local media, which gave rise to numerous councils from citizens of the community. This advice was crucial in positively identifying Joseph Weathers as the perpetrator of the theft.
Weathers is charged with armed robbery, two counts of assault and battery in the first degree, unlawful possession of a handgun by persons and possession of a firearm while committing a violent crime .
