Singer-songwriter Anna Crosby forms band for Untapped Art Festival
Local singer-songwriter Anna Crosby is preparing for her show at the Untapped Art Festival, which will be her first performance of her original music with a full band accompanying her.
“This part is a big deal for me – the fact that people come together to learn my material,” said Crosby, who will be joined by Michael Duff on lead guitar, Tyler McCarron on drums, Leon David on cello and Chris. Williams on saxophone. There will also be performances by garage soul duo The Mobros and folk duo Dark & ââBitter.
Untapped Art Festival, formerly known as For the Love of Art Festival, will be held outdoors at Tradesman Brewing Co. on December 4 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., hosted by local artists Chad Dyar and Julie Glass of Charleston Artist Guild. Participants can appreciate art of all types, including paintings, mixed media, photography, pottery, jewelry, and sculpture by over 25 artists.
When it comes to music, Crosby said an important aspect for her is addressing the winding road to mental health, which has been a central theme in her lyrical content.
âIt’s not necessarily about sound, it’s history – reaching out to help people who need to personally hear something for their trip,â Crosby said.
“I would say the most important thing I see in a new light is the energy to remind myself to keep going,” she said of her place on the Charleston music scene, which started for her in 2020 when she started performing with The Real Good News Band.
âYou have the power to push yourself and get there even if it seems impossible,â she said.
Untapped Art Festival is free with free on-site parking. Donations are welcome to support the Lonon Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps children affected by a caregiver’s cancer diagnosis. Food trucks include Victor’s Lab and KJ Style BBQ.
âWe’ve all seen so many losses over the past year and a half,â said Dyar. âI believe we are still in a period of healing and hopefully growing. Art is such a healing thing, whether it is the process of creation or of consumption. “
