Three wrestlers honored as NWCA All-Americans scholars

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia – For the second year in a row, three members of West Virginia University’s wrestling team were named to the 2022 All-America Scholar Division I team by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) on Friday afternoon.
senior red shirt Killian Cardinal and second Peyton Room cemented their place on the list for the second year in a row, while the second year in redshirt Jeffrey Boyd debuted on the roster. All three recently earned first-team Academic All-Big 12 honors and brought the total number of NWCA Scholar All-Americans to 30 in program history.
The trio joins 286 additional student-athletes representing 73 institutions to earn the distinction.
To be eligible for Scholar All-American status, a wrestler must have met one of four requirements:
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and have earned all US honors in the same academic year.
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and have qualified for an NCAA National Tournament in the same college year
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and must have won 60% of their games overall in at least 60% of the team schedule.
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and have participated in the conference qualifying tournament.
