UPDATE: West Virginia DNR releases name of man who drowned in Lake Tygart

GRAFTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Natural Resources Division released the name of a man who drowned in Lake Tygart on Thursday.
According to Lawrence Messina, director of communications and public relations for the state of West Virginia, the Natural Resources Police Division is investigating after Robert Thompson, 48, of Philippi, drowned Thursday morning while swimming in the Doe Run reservoir at Pleasant Creek Wildlife. Management area.
Authorities recovered Thompson’s body from the reservoir, which is for fishing and is a restricted area for swimming, according to MNR. It’s in the Taylor County part of the WMA.
MNR police received the call about the incident at 12:20 p.m. Thursday and have since been in contact with Thompson’s family.

One person drowned in an incident on May 20 in Tygart Lake, Taylor County.
Emergency crews were called just after noon at a boat launch in the Pleasant Creek Wildlife Management Area of Tygart Lake.
A witness at the scene told 12 News he saw a man float face down in the lake.
The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources confirmed a drowning incident, but declined to provide further information.
There is no word on the identity of the person who drowned or the circumstances that led to the drowning.
There are “no swimming” signs in this area of Lake Tygart.
