Vacation does not delay union strike against Cabell-Huntington Hospital
HUNTINGTON, WV (WOWK) – The SEIU District 1199 union strike against Cabell Huntington Hospital continues into its 23rd day and is not taking a vacation break.
The union introduced Thanksgiving festivities to people on the picket line Thursday, serving food and joy.
Picket line strikers say morale is high, and while it is different than being home with their families for the holidays, they are grateful to their co-workers that day.
âI never thought I would go through something like this. You can feel the love, everyone is walking around talking to each other, because we all know being here is very different from being with our blood family. But it’s still that family feeling and we’re all here just to celebrate together, âsays Sydney Ankrom, clerk at Cabell Huntington Hospital.
âIt’s really cold on Thanksgiving, but we are grateful to our family, our colleagues, the support of the union, for our meal here today. We just hope to get a fair deal very soon, âsays Shellie Webb, Patient Accounts Representative at Cabell Huntington Hospital.
Federally mediated negotiations between the hospital and the union are expected to resume on Tuesday, November 30.
